We were delighted to be involved in the exciting expansion of The Cut & Craft, Leeds, manufacturing and installing bespoke fixed seating for the restaurant’s impressive new hospitality spaces.
Situated within Leeds’ iconic Victoria Quarter, The Cut & Craft occupies the former Collinson’s Café; a Grade II-listed building with a fascinating history and some of the city’s most distinctive architecture. Following the success of the original Leeds restaurant, The Cut & Craft expanded into the neighbouring premises as part of a £1.2 million investment.
The expansion has transformed the venue, introducing a stylish new bar and lounge, two private dining rooms, additional hospitality space, and a dedicated stage for live entertainment.
For PGI Contracts, the project presented an exciting opportunity to combine our expertise in bespoke commercial seating, joinery and upholstery with an ambitious hospitality interior.
Bespoke seating designed for a flagship hospitality venue
As a specialist commercial seating manufacturer, PGI Contracts was responsible for manufacturing and installing bespoke fixed seating throughout the new areas.
The seating incorporates carefully considered curves and forms, including bespoke circular banquette seating, designed to work seamlessly with the architecture and layout of the new spaces.
Celebrating Leeds’ heritage
One of the most interesting aspects of the project was the way the new extension connects with the history of the original building.
The restaurant occupies the former Collinson’s Café, which was renowned for its live music in the early 1900s. Among the musicians who performed there was Wallace Hartley, who later became bandleader aboard the RMS Titanic.
His connection to the building has helped inspire elements of the new design, including a dedicated stage for a programme of weekly live music. The expansion therefore brings together the heritage of the original venue with a contemporary vision for dining, drinks, and entertainment.
The Grade II-listed building’s distinctive architectural features, including its ornate detailing, stained glass and iconic glass dome, remain an important part of the experience, while the new areas introduce a more contemporary layer to the venue.
Designed for dining, celebrations and events
The expansion significantly increases the capacity and versatility of The Cut & Craft Leeds. Two new private dining rooms provide dedicated spaces for intimate celebrations, corporate dining and larger gatherings.
Alongside the private dining spaces, the new bar and lounge creates an additional destination within the restaurant, while the dedicated stage introduces live entertainment to the expanded venue. The completed restaurant now provides a much larger and more versatile hospitality experience.
